athenaOne Mobile — Improve Diagnosis and Order Workflows

What's New?

You can now add orders in athenaOne mobile more easily with improved diagnosis and order workflows that require fewer taps and allow you to search for diagnoses, orders, order sets, and point-of-care-test (POCT) orders from the same screen.

 

This change also includes a new diagnoses and orders (D+O) Cart, which allows you to view and manage all diagnoses and orders at once. In the D+O Cart, you can: 

  • Add diagnoses and orders
  • Remove or delete diagnoses and orders
  • Rearrange diagnoses and associated orders
  • Rearrange orders

Step-by-step instructions

To add an order/diagnosis/POCT order/order set

  1. Start an order using one of these options:

    • From outside an encounter: On the Home screen, tap Order Group, search for and select a patient, and tap + Diagnoses & Orders on the Order Group screen.

    • In an encounter: On the Exam tab, under Assessment and Plan, tap + Diagnoses & Orders.

  2. In the search bar at the top of the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen, search for the diagnosis, order, order set, or POCT order you want to add.

    Order sets are displayed at the top of the screen, and you can easily view the diagnosis and orders in an order set by tapping  to the right of the order set name.

    You can also filter orders on this screen by facility by tapping Preferred Facility at the top and selecting the patient's preferred lab or imaging facility.

  3. Tap a diagnosis, order, order set, or POCT order to select it.

     

    When you select an item, it is immediately added to the D+O Cart. You can then search for and select additional items to add to the D+O Cart.

     

    Tip
    Add a diagnosis directly followed by orders so that the orders are associated with the diagnosis.

     

    Note
    If you add any orders without associating them with diagnoses, these orders will appear under a "no diagnosis" section at the top of the cart.

     

    Tap an item again to deselect it and remove it from the D+O Cart.

     

    View the contents of the D+O Cart at any time by tapping it at the bottom of the screen.

  4. When you are done adding orders and diagnoses, tap Next in the upper right.

  5. Review the orders and diagnoses in the D+O Cart, and modify the list if necessary. See To manage orders and diagnoses in the D+O Cart for details.

  6. When you finish reviewing, tap Order Group > or Exam > to return to the Order Group screen or Exam tab.

  7. To sign the orders, on the Order Group screen or Exam tab under Assessment and Plan, tap Sign Orders.

To manage orders and diagnoses in the D+O Cart

When you select a diagnosis or order, it is added to the D+O Cart, and you can view the cart at any time by tapping on the cart at the bottom of the screen.

 

Note
Tap outside the cart or tap the X in the upper left to dismiss the cart and return to the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen.

 

Add an order to an existing diagnosis in the D+O Cart

From the D+O Cart, you can add orders only to diagnoses already in the cart. To add additional orders that you do not want associated with an existing diagnosis in the cart, close the D+O Cart and add the orders from the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen.

 

  1. In the D+O Cart, tap + Order next to any diagnosis to add an order to the diagnosis.

    The Add order screen is displayed.

  2. Search for and select the order or order set to add. You can also tap Medications or Previous Visits at the bottom of the screen to quickly add orders (accelerate) from the patient's medications list or previous visits.

    Once orders are selected, they are added to the D+O Cart.

  3. In the upper right, tap Next to return to the D+O Cart.

Add a diagnosis to existing orders in the D+O Cart

In the D+O Cart, you can add a diagnosis only to orders that are not currently associated with a diagnosis (listed in the "no diagnosis" section at the top of the cart). Once you select a diagnosis for those orders, all orders that were not associated with a diagnosis will move under (be associated with) the diagnosis you selected. If you want to associate any of the orders with a different diagnosis than the one you selected, close the D+O Cart and add a new diagnosis from the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen. Then, drag and drop the order under the desired diagnosis.

 

  1. In the D+O Cart, tap + Diagnosis.

  2. Search for and select the diagnosis to add.

    The diagnosis is added to the D+O Cart.

  3. In the upper right, tap Next to return to the D+O Cart.

Note
Once the diagnosis is added, all orders that were not associated with a diagnosis will move under the new diagnosis. If you want to associate any of the orders with a different diagnosis than the one you selected, close the D+O Cart and add a new diagnosis from the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen. Then, drag and drop the order under the desired diagnosis.

 

Move an order

In the D+O Cart, orders are displayed under the diagnoses with which they are associated. Orders that are not associated with a diagnosis are displayed at the top of the cart under "Add diagnosis to these orders". You can also move orders in the cart to associate them with a different diagnosis.

 

To move an order, press and hold the order and then drag it to the desired location.

 

Rearrange diagnoses

  1. In the D+O Cart, tap Rearrange Diagnoses to rearrange the diagnosis list.

  2. Press and hold a diagnosis and then drag it to the desired location. All orders listed under the diagnosis (associated with the diagnosis) are also moved.

    To return the list to the original order, you can tap Back to default view.

  3. Tap Done to return to the D+O Cart.

Remove an order or diagnosis

In the D+O Cart, tap  to the right of any diagnosis or order to remove it from the cart. If you remove a diagnosis, all orders listed under the diagnosis (associated with the diagnosis) are also removed from the cart.

Once you review all orders, tap Order Group > or Exam > to return to the Order Group screen or Exam tab.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How do I quickly add orders and diagnoses in this new workflow?

  1. Tap + Diagnoses & Orders.
  2. On the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen, search for and select a diagnosis followed by orders. Repeat as necessary.
  3. Tap Next in the upper right or tap the D+O Cart at the bottom of the screen to go to the cart.
  4. Review the diagnoses and orders and tap Order Group > or Exam > to return to the Order Group screen or Exam tab.

 

How do I add orders from the D+O Cart?

  1. In the cart, tap + Order next to any diagnosis to add an order to the diagnosis.
  2. On the Add order screen, search for and select the order to add.
  3. Tap Next to return to the cart.

 

How do I add a diagnosis to orders that have no diagnosis associated with them?

  1. At the top of the D+O Cart, tap + Diagnosis.
  2. On the Add Diagnosis screen:
    • If you want to move the orders under an existing diagnosis, select any diagnosis from the "This encounter diagnosis" section. Tapping Next will move all the previously unassociated orders under the existing diagnosis that you selected.
    • If you need to add a new diagnosis for the orders, search for and select the new diagnosis. Tapping Next will move all the previously unassociated orders under the new diagnosis.
    • Note
      If you move orders under a diagnosis by mistake, just drag and drop the orders under the desired diagnosis.

How do I add unassociated orders to a different diagnosis that is not in the cart? 

  1. Dismiss the cart by tapping outside the cart or tapping the X in the upper left.
  2. On the Add Diagnoses & Orders screen, search for and select a new diagnosis.
  3. Open the D+O Cart by tapping the cart at the bottom of the screen or tapping Next in the upper right.
  4. Drag and drop your orders from the top of the cart to the desired new diagnosis.

 

How do I rearrange diagnoses in the D+O Cart?

  1. In the cart, tap Rearrange Diagnoses under the list of diagnoses and orders.
  2. Press and hold a diagnosis and then drag it to the desired location. Repeat as necessary.
  3. Tap Done to return to the D+O Cart.

 

How do I move orders from one diagnosis to another?

In the cart, press and hold an order and then drag it to the desired location.

 

How do I delete diagnoses or orders?

On the search window, uncheck selected diagnoses or orders to remove them. In the D+O Cart, tap  to the right of a diagnosis or order to remove it.

 

How do I close the D+O Cart?

Tap the X in the upper left or tap outside the cart to dismiss the cart and return to the search window.

 

How do I add more diagnoses or orders once I've already added some?

You can always add additional orders and diagnoses by tapping + Diagnoses & Orders from an Order Group screen or Assessment and Plan section.
