VPN - Install/Upgrade Ivanti Secure Access (Formerly Pulse Secure) and Connect to the VPN

Overview

This article contains instructions for any Wayne Health employees, researchers, contractors that would need to connect to the Wayne Health VPN using the Ivanti Secure Access (formerly Pulse Secure) VPN client program on a Windows or Mac computer.

Windows x64 Instructions
Step 1: Establishing a VPN connection is the first step in remotely connecting to office computer resources from any BYOD (personal device)

If you need to install or upgrade the Ivanti Secure Access VPN client program, then this section is for you. It gives steps to download and install that program - this is the same process for upgrading a currently-installed Ivanti. Secure Access program, as it is for installing Ivanti Secure Access for the first time. If you need any assistance, please contact the Wayne Health Help Desk.

***IMPORTANT***

If you haven't yet set up your Wayne Health two-factor authentication (2FA) account yet, then please go through the instructions at the following link before anything: Directions for 2fa.

  1. Download Windows x64 Ivanti Secure Access client from link: Ivanti Secure Access Client - Windows x64
  2. Open the downloaded file.


  3. The setup wizard should start up automatically when you open the downloaded file. If Windows asks to allow the program to run, click Yes. When the setup wizard opens, click the Next button on the first screen, then Install on the second screen.



    NOTE: Windows also ask you to close specific programs during the installation. If so, save any work in the specified program, and then press any continue or retry button you see.
  4. Let the installation complete, and click Finish



    Now that we have Ivanti Secure access installed lets configure it. Click link below to expand configuration instructions.


Step 2: Connect with Ivanti Secure Access for the First Time (Start a VPN Connection)

Once you've installed Ivanti Secure Access you're ready to make your connection to the Wayne Health VPN. This section gives steps to establish that first VPN connection

If you haven't yet set up your Wayne Health two-factor authentication (2FA) account yet, then please go through the instructions at the following link before anything:Directions for 2fa.

  1. At the bottom of your computer screen, click the Windows icon to open your list of programs and scroll down to the section


    WINDOWS 11 NOTE: If you're using Windows 11, after you click the Windows icon, you may need to the click the all apps button to see the list of programs
  2. Click the folder for Pulse Secure then click the Ivanti Secure Access Client icon.

  3. When Ivanti Secure Access opens, click file UI Mode. Select New-UX.



  4. Click Ok


  5. Ivanti Secure Access Client will close and reopen with the new interface.

    Click on Add a new Connection


  6. Type the following information in:

    Enter Name: Wayne Health VPN

    Enter Server URL: vpn.med.wayne.edu


    Click the Add button.



  7. This brings you back to the previous window, but it now gives you a starting point in Ivanti Secure Access to use in the future. Click on the three dots to the right of Wayne Health VPN. Click on Connect.



  8. A login window will open enter your Wayne Health username and password.



  9. Either enter OTP or click continue for a push notification.


  10. The client will run compliance checks on your device. If it is compliant it will finish establishing the connection.
Mac Instructions
Step 1: Establishing a VPN connection is the first step in remotely connecting to office computer resources from any BYOD (personal device)
  1. Download Mac Ivanti Secure Access VPN client from link: Ivanti Secure Access Client - Mac
  2. Open the downloaded file. If you see a .pkg file, double-click it to start the installer.


    NOTE: Even though the program is now called Ivanti Secure Access, the .pkg file may still mention Pulse Secure, and that's ok.



  3. The setup wizard should start up automatically when you open the downloaded file.
  4. When the setup wizard opens, click the “Continue” button on the first screen.


  5. Then click the "Install" button on the second screen.



  6. If your Mac asks for your permission to install, enter the username and password you use to log on to this computer, and click "Install Software"


    NOTE: On some versions of the Mac OS X, you might run into an error here saying that this program is not permitted, and you're not given options to install anyway. If this happens, and you’re stuck at this point, please contact the Wayne Health Help Desk.
  7. Your mac will then proceed to install the software.



  8. Once the install is finished the client will open to this window



  9. Click on the Add a new Connection.


    Type the following information in:

    Enter Name: Wayne Health VPN

    Enter Server URL: vpn.med.wayne.edu


    Click the Add button.


  10. After the connection is added this is the normal screen to connect.


Step 2: Connect using Ivanti Secure Access for the First Time (Start a VPN Connection)

Once you've installed Ivanti Secure Access you're ready to make your connection to the Wayne Health VPN. This section gives steps to establish that first VPN connection
