How does the medication history get imported from Surescripts into athena?

AthenaNet integrates with Surescripts, a Pharmacy Benefit Manager, to download the past 13 months of medications into the patient’s chart. As long as the “Medication History Authority” consent radio button is checked on the Quickview, athenaNet will query Surescripts to find the patient and download their medication list. This works for patients with insurance only and will populate any prescribed drugs (nothing over the counter). The Medication History Authority checkbox runs its eligibility query to Surescripts every 12 hours before an appointment, as well as any time a new order group is created (an order created outside of an encounter).

To see where a medication on the patient’s med list comes from, click on the medication itself to see the audit trail: it will indicate if the med came over via Surescripts or if it was added/ prescribed by a user at the practice.

For more background on how the download works, see this page in O-Help.
